50 Free Kid-Friendly Summer Activities

We have mixed feelings about summer. On one hand, the weather is gorgeous and it’s wonderful to get outside and play! On the other hand, we definitely miss our students and their families. There’s something about the comfortable daily routine of being at Kids Village that warms our hearts. Regardless, however, Kids Village is out for the summer!

But that doesn’t mean the fun has to end. If you’re list-oriented (like us) then it sometimes helps to have a good summer bucket list to inspire fun activities during the summer. If you’re also budget-conscious (like us) then this list of free kid-friendly summer activities will be right up your alley!

  1. Go for a hike
  2. Fly a kite
  3. Play in the sand
  4. Visit the beach (or a neighborhood beach)
  5. Play at a splash pad
  6. Make homemade lemonade
  7. Make popsicles
  8. Go for a bike ride
  9. Climb a tree
  10. Go roller skating
  11. Watch a parade
  12. Attend a city celebration
  13. Have a slumber party
  14. Go camping
  15. Play in the mud
  16. Walk a dog (yours, a neighbor’s, or a shelter’s)
  17. Bring dinner to a neighbor
  18. Host a family or neighborhood bbq
  19. Run in the sprinklers
  20. Play Frisbee
  21. Visit the library (a lot)
  22. Play hopscotch
  23. Go fishing
  24. Make paper airplanes
  25. Visit a farm
  26. Make homemade ice cream
  27. Make a blanket fort
  28. Roast marshmallows over a campfire
  29. Go to a movie
  30. Learn a new card game
